Agroecology as an Alternative to Militarization and militarism: Dialogues between Latin America and the Arctic region.

Agroecology offers a radically different way of imagining territorial belonging and our common futures than the militarized, nationalistic patterns that increasingly shape state agendas across continents. While militarism increases wars, fear, control and extraction, , agroecology reimagines territory as a living system cared for through reciprocity and interdependence. Across Latin America, indigenous and campesino movements have shown how agroecology strengthens community autonomy and food sovereignty, fostering peace. In the Arctic, Saami and other Indigenous perspectives similarly assert landscapes and reindeer herding practices as relational, not extractive; placing care and cooperation before geopolitical competition and militarism.

Latin American and Arctic experiences can make us look at agroecology not only as a technical method of sustainable production but also as an ethical and political grammar of common futures and coexistence. Against militarism and militarization, agroecology gestures toward a pluriversal sovereignty rooted in earth systems rather than state borders.
This is planned as a round table conversation with concrete examples from grassroots movements in Colombia, Guatemala and Brazil.
